Ai Weiwei – Sunflower Seeds at Tate Modern

Ai Weiwei has said a lot of intersting things about this extroadinary piece of work in which he has covered the floor of the huge Turbine Hall at Tate Modern with millions of sunflower seeds, hand made and hand painted in porcelain.  Weiwei’s original intention was that people be allowed to walk across the exhibit, but the sheer numbers of people caused porcelain dust to be kicked up which became a Hellthandsafy issue, so now you can go up close ..but not touch.

Weiwei talked about the masses versus the individual.  Mass production vs individual effort.  He talked about the ‘made in china’ label.
