The West Highland Museum in Fort William is an amazing treasure trove  It has a huge and fascinating collection, so that each time I go I find out some new nugget of gold.

I found this below on a recent visit, and it makes for shocking reading given how endangered some of them have become.  Amazing how our perspective changes…..

  1. I wish he’d worked a bit harder on the hoodies … If you read Osgood Mackenize’s “A Hundred Years in the Highlands” you’ll find similar stories. Mackenzie quite often says things like “When I was a boy we would kill 20 golden eagles a week, yet now there are hardly any to be seen, how remarkable”. The lack of awareness of the impact of their actions seems astonishing now, and yet I suppose one has to see it in context.
